A Guide to New Zealand Passports & Visas Requirements Visitors


The information below is a basic snapshot of the immigration requirements when entering New Zealand for a holiday.

Passports

ALL visitors to New Zealand must have a passport that is valid for at least three months after departure from New Zealand if your country does not have consular representation in New Zealand or one month after departure if it does.

Visas

If you are travelling on a passport that requires a visa to enter New Zealand you can use this link to Immigration New Zealand and apply for yours.

As of 01 October 2019 visitors travelling to New Zealand on a visa waiver passport need to have purchased an IVL and NZeTA.  Applications can be made here by anyone that has already booked travel to New Zealand. The visa is valid for up to 2 years and can be used for multiple entries into New Zealand. For more information please visit the immigration New Zealand website here.

Visa Exemptions - Note: a visa is NOT the same as a passport

You do not need a visa or permit to visit New Zealand if you are:

  • A New Zealand citizen or Resident Permit holder.
  • An Australian citizen travelling on an Australian passport.

Vaccinations

No vaccinations are required to enter New Zealand.
