Auckland's Waiheke Island is a haven for lovers of good food and wine. There are a number of great wineries, vineyards and dining establishments that make this a great day out.
Then there's the added bonus of the beautiful scenery, including beaches and gorgeous scenic walks.
Head to Waiheke for food and wine holidays, whether for a day trip or a multi-day excursion. There are plenty of accommodation options, and the island is so enchanting it won't be a surprise if you end up wanting to extend your stay.
There are a number of vineyards you might want to visit, including Cable Bay, Stonyridge, Peacock Sky, Te Whau or more.
Take a trip to the various cellar doors, sample some wines and make some purchases, or head to the onsite cafe, bar or restaurant for a meal.
Usually these dining establishments have amazing views, such as Cable Bay Vineyard's inspiring lookout over rolling hills and turquoise ocean. Remember, pack some sunscreen and a hat because you're going to want to spend plenty of time in the great outdoors.
It's not just wine fans who will love Waiheke, however. The island also boasts its own brewery, with wheat beer, ales and an even a ginger beer on offer. It's located at Wild on Waiheke, which is a multi-activity venue including archery and clay bird shooting alongside a cafe and the brewery! That makes a unique experience for foodies, wine lovers and thrill-seekers alike.
If picnics are more up your alley, bring your favourite foods and drinks and enjoy them on a beach or in a park.
Waiheke is only a 35 minute ferry ride from Auckland, so head downtown and begin in the journey to this charming island.
