A 10-day action-packed Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tour. Enjoy an all camping and hiking off-road adventure trip at a relaxed pace. Depart Broome heading east for Tunnel Creek and your first destination, Windjana Gorge, keeping an eye out for the local wildlife. Visit the waterfall at Bell Gorge and swim at Adcock Gorge with tree frogs before making camp at Manning Gorge for two nights. Observe ancient Wandjina rock art and cross the Pentacost River to enjoy the nearby swimming holes at El Questro Station. Relax in the crystal clear hot springs at Zebedee Springs and continue on to reach Purnululu National Park and the breathtaking Bungle Bungles Range. Wake up early to watch the domes change colour as the sunrise casts its rays. Cruise along Lake Argyle to discover more wildlife and camp on a lake island, before crossing the border into the Northern Territory, visiting Victoria River and Katherine before your return to the tropical city of Darwin.

Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tours Broome to Darwin - Day 1
Broome to Windjana Gorge

Your tour starts at 6am when you are picked up from your accommodation in Broome. Your first stop will be Derby’s impressive Boab Prison Tree; it has a girth of 14.7 metres and was once used as a stopping place for police and groups of Aboriginal prisoners. The next stop will be Tunnel Creek. This is a spectacular 750-metre-long limestone cave system. It has numerous aboriginal cultural and art sites, and even the odd freshwater crocodile can be spotted there. The site was part of Australia’s longest running battle on Australian soil. Your guide will explain some of the history of the area, including about Jandamarra and the Bunuba resistance. Later, you will set up camp and head into Windjana Gorge for sunset and to spot some of the local wildlife - including the large numbers of freshwater crocodiles!

Windjara Gorge to Manning Gorge

Today your Kimberley adventure starts with a walk into the remarkable teared waterfall known as Bell Gorge, in Wunaamin Conservation Park. Here you will have the opportunity to swim, and in the afternoon swim at Adcock Gorge; a great place to spot the Magnificent Tree frogs. Your last stop for the day will be the evening's campsite on the edge of Manning Gorge, where you will stay for two nights.

Manning Gorge & Galvans Gorge

Start today with a hike into Manning Gorge for a swim as well as an opportunity to see ancient Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw rock art) and spot the Northern Red-Faced turtle. After a BBQ lunch, take a short drive to Galvan's gorge for an opportunity to float around in the water or sit back, and watch birdlife coming in for a drink. It even has a Boab tree perfectly placed above the falls. A great example of the Wandjana Aboriginal rock art can be found here as well.

Manning Gorge to El Questro Station

Today you will continue along the Gibb River Road, taking a few diversions to see rock art sites and lookouts. Cross the Kimberley's Pentecost River before arriving at El Questro station where you will camp for two nights. You’ll be able to explore the numerous swimming holes close to camp, and your guide can point you in the right direction to find colourful Gouldian finches and other birdlife. Tonight, you’ll enjoy a meal at the restaurant (at your own expense) and if you choose, you can quench your thirst at the Swinging Arm Bar and rub shoulders with the locals and fellow travellers.

El Questro Gorge and Zebedee Springs

After breakfast this morning, you will make a stop at a series of crystal-clear hot springs known as Zebedee Springs. A time to relax and admire the scenery in the spring-fed pools. Afterwards, embark on an adventurous hike up El Questro Gorge where you will be rewarded with a refreshing swim. There are two sections to the gorge so if you’re not up for a long hike, you can choose to relax at the halfway pool. After the gorge walk, make your way back to camp at El Questro station.

El Questro to Purnululu National Park

This morning you will begin your hike into the stunning Cockburn Ranges to Emma Gorge, where you will be able to take a swim surrounded by the impressive, dominating rockface. Once back at the truck you will then make your way to the Bungle Bungles. On the way you will pass by the Warnum Aboriginal community and the Durack, Carr Boyd and Osmund Ranges, as well as the Bow River - made famous by Australian pub rock band Cold Chisel. Tonight, set up camp in the Purnululu National Park (Bungle Bungles) where you will stay for two nights.

Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tours Broome to Darwin - Day 7
Purnululu & Cathedral Gorge

This morning, awake early to watch the colours change on the Bungle Bungles domes as the sun rises. Your group will then beat the crowds and hike into Cathedral Gorge, Piccaninny Creek lookout and the Window.
After exploring the Bungles, you will also have the option to take a scenic helicopter flight today for an additional cost. If you would like to do this, please let your guides know on tour.
After lunch, you will hike deep into the Bungle Bungle Range entering a narrow passage on foot, leading into Echidna Chasm, where you’ll stand in the centre surrounded by the impressive 200-metre-high cliffs.

Purnululu to Lake Argyle

This morning you will make a stop in Kununurra before heading to Lake Argyle, Australia’s largest man-made lake, where you will embark on our Lake Argyle Island adventure. Board the cruise vessel with your camping gear in tow, and head out on to the lake. Explore the islands and bays in search of wildlife, including the short-eared rock wallaby, wallaroo, freshwater crocodile, and numerous fish species and birdlife. You'll also have the opportunity to plunge into the cool waters for a refreshing swim before heading to the island to set up camp. Enjoy the welcomed solitude and sunset over a campfire meal, before resting for the night ready to be woken by the sound of water, wildlife and an unmissable sunrise. When ready, the group will pack up and head back to the mainland for breakfast.

Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tours Broome to Darwin - Day 9
Lake Argyle to Victoria River

Today you cross the border into the Northern Territory and visit Keep River National Park to learn about some of the local Aboriginal history at Gingers Hill. You then make your way to the Goorrandalng walk; an amazing short walk which has great views of the colourful sandstone escarpment and masses of Livistonia palms that grow out of all the cracks in the rocks. Your next stop will be in Jubarra (Gregory) National Park, where you will see Gregory’s Tree. The tree is a sacred site to the Ngarinyman people and is named after the explorer Augustus Gregory and his party, who camped near it in 1855. You will then continue your journey north and finish the day in the Victoria River region to discover some ancient rock art and set up camp for the night.

Victoria River to Darwin

On the final day of your Kimberley Off-Road Adventure Tour, you can make a splash in the picturesque Edith Falls, sitting 60km north of the regional town of Katherine. After lunch, continue north making a final stop at the intriguing magnetic termite mounds. You will then be returned to your accommodation in Darwin as you reminisce all the wonderful memories you have made over the past 10 days!
